Greencastle FC have re-appointed Pat McLaughlin as first team manager for the 2025-26 season.

McLaughlin, who guided Greencastle to the Inishowen Premier Division title in 2018-9 and again in 2021-22, has been installed as joint manager alongside Darren Hempenstall.

John Quigg, who has long been McLaughlin’s right-hand man, will be the team coach, while Adrian McClenaghan is also a member of the high-powered management team.

Greencastle endured a torrid 2024-25 season where they were relegated from the Premier Division after failing to win a game and scoring just four goals in 16 outings.

The appointment of McLaughlin, Quigg, Hempenstall and McClenaghan will, the club hopes, make their stay in the First Division a short one.

In an interview with Donegallive back in April, McLaughlin was under no illusions about the scale of the rebuild needed at Greencastle.

McLaughlin has been away from soccer for a few years and, with John Quigg, managed the Moville Gaelic footballers for two seasons, guiding them to the 2023 Donegal Junior A final where they were narrowly beaten. The pair stepped down from Moville GAA last autumn.

Greencastle FC will hope McLaughlin can bring his Midas touch back to Chapel Lane where he oversaw an unprecedented period of success over his previous eight year stint in charge.

As well as two Inishowen Premier Division titles, Greencastle also won several cup finals, most notably the 2019 Ulster Junior Cup.
