TRIATHLON
The winner of the 2025 Triathlon Award is Mark McGinley, Letterkenny 24-7 Triathlon Club
It’s back-to-back Awards for Mark.
He competed in the Ironman 70.3 in Mallorca where he finished 15th overall in May. That result qualified Mark for the Ironman World Championship in Marbella in November. But, that almost didn’t happen as six weeks out, he picked up an injury and just to make it even more challenging he landed in Malaga only to find his bike had been mangled on the flight. But Letterkenny man Cormac Keeney and a Marbella resident came to the rescue with a road bike and Mark went on to put in a stellar performance.
Locally the Glenswilly man won both the Liam Ball Sprint and the Sheephaven 70.3 and there was also a first at the inaugural Cnoc Fola Duathlon in August. On the National stage he finished seventh overall at the 70.3 Championships. In recognition of an astounding season, Mark was named the 24-7 Triathlon Club athlete of the year.
