Why they won: The winners at the Donegal Sports Star Awards

The various category winners were presented with their awards at a special reception at the Mount Errigal Hotel in Letterkenny on Friday evening. Here's who won what and why they won it

The winner of the 2025 Equestrian Award is Dylan Browne McMonagle, Letterkenny

Dylan Browne McMonagle enjoyed a landmark 2025 season, firmly establishing himself among Ireland’s elite jockeys. Dylan was crowned Irish Champion Flat Jockey, riding 95 winners to overtake six-time champion Colin Keane and proudly receive his trophy at the Curragh.

His year was highlighted by a Group 1 victory in the Comer Group International Irish St Leger aboard Al Riffa, a spectacular ride that confirmed his status at the top level of Irish racing. On the international stage, Dylan achieved a career milestone with his first Breeders’ Cup success, winning the Grade 1 Longines Breeders’ Cup in Del Mar, California.

After receiving the Horse Racing Ireland Flat Award, Dylan embarked on a three-month riding stint in Hong Kong in December competing in the Longines Hong Kong Vase. This is Dylan’s sixth Donegal Sports Star Award.
