Home side Burt took full advantage of a heavy first-half wind against Setanta at Hibernian Park on Friday night.

They led by 0-14 to 1-1 at the break, but, unfortunately for the visitors, the breeze dropped in the second half.

Both sides were short a raft of county players, so there were quite a few fringe players on view on both sides.

Burt got off to a good start with a pointed free from Kieran Brady, and this was added to with a point from play from Kyron McColgan.

McColgan hit another point shortly after, as did Aidan Porter.

Bernard Lafferty opened Setanta’s account with a pointed free after ten minutes.

But Burt were in the ascendancy, and Brady pointed from play, followed by a similar score from Eoin McDaid from play.

Colm Porter and Stephen Gillespie added further points for the winners before Setanta’s Noel Ewing finished a goalmouth scramble to the net for the visitors in the 21st minute.

Burt points from McDaid, Dara Grant, and Colm Porter (0-2) put them into a 0-12 to 1-1.

Gillespie hit two points on the trot to leave the score at 0-14 to 1-1 at the break.

McColgan and Lafferty swapped pointed frees on the restart and the wind died down by this stage as Andrew Walker pointed from play for Burt.

McColgan added another pointed free on the 40th minute.

Fionn Farren had a point from play for Setanta, and Brady replied with a free, as did McColgan in similar circumstances.

Setanta hit a fine second goal, a rasper, from Dean Harvey, as Oisin Kerr added a point for Burt to leave them leading by 1-20 to 2-3 three minutes from time.

Lafferty pointed from play and McDaid found the net to conclude matters for the winners.
