Pennneys
A man who stole almost €400 worth of clothing and make up from Penneys has appeared in court.
Gardai were called to the store, at Letterkenny Shopping Centre, on January 26, 2023.
John Looby was detained at Penneys and was found with the stolen items concealed under his clothes.
Looby, a 40-year-old of Drumbarnett, Manorcunningham, appeared before Letterkenny District Court charged with theft.
The items of clothing and make up had a total value of €384.95.
Sergeant Jim Collins told the court that the incident was captured on CCTV and Looby made full admissions. The accused handed over the goods when apprehended.
Solicitor for Looby, Mr Rory O'Brien, said his client was 'very embarrassed' and had 'very little recollection' of the incident.
“He completely understands what he did, but not why,” Mr O'Brien said, adding that Looby suffered a brain injury 12 years ago which affects his mood and rational thoughts.
Mr O'Brien said: “He describes this as 'episodic'."
The goods were recovered and resell-able, the court was told.
Judge Éiteáin Cunningham fined Looby €150 and given five months to pay.
