A local councillor has said that Fáilte Ireland doesn’t understand the importance of festivals in the county due to the lack of funding received.
Sinn Féin Councillor John Shemais ÓFhearraigh made the claim in reference to the €49,000 tourism funding Donegal was allocated.
“I don’t think Fáilte Ireland understands the importance of festivals in Donegal,” he said. “The funding of €49,000 is not much; it is worth pushing for an increase.”
Fáilte Ireland is the National Tourism Development Authority responsible for the long-term growth of tourism in Ireland through investment and infrastructure. Funding allocations from the tourism body are intended to enhance and promote events across the county, boosting tourism numbers.

Glenties MD Councillor and party colleague Brian Carr concurred by stating that with the volume of festivals in the county, it divides the funding.
