St Johnston Cricket Club submits application to Donegal County Council for indoor cricket court and bowling facilities

An East Donegal sports club has applied to Donegal County Council for planning permission for the erection of an indoor cricket court.

The Chairperson of St Johnston Cricket Club, James Fleming, was named as the listed applicant for the submitted application for the indoor cricket court and bowling facilities, as well as all associated site works.

St Johnston Cricket Club were established in 1898, with their greatest accomplishment being winning the Irish Senior Cup in 1987, and they have also won the North West Senior League and North West Senior Cup.

Competing in the North West Senior League, the club plays in the Premier Section One after winning promotion, and the women's team also plays in the women’s top division. They are members of the North West Cricket Union. The club are one of two cricket teams in Donegal, fielding youth teams up to the under-15 age category.

Canning & Associates Architectural Services, writing on behalf of the club, stated: “This proposed location is to facilitate the neighbouring residents, creating a space away from their private amenities.

“This practice area is badly needed given the standard they have to perform to.”

Donegal County Council has announced a decision due date for the submitted planning application for January 6, 2027
