The River Club, a once popular nightspot on the outskirts of Castlefin, is set to be transformed into a childcare facility.
In its heyday, the River Club, at Cloughfin, Castlefin was a thriving weekend club, attracting thousands of revellers, mainly from east Donegal and across Northern Ireland.
In January 2017, the River Club’s doors suddenly closed after 30 years in business. Before its closure, Club RC’s Sunday disco was the only night the club was opened having previously hosted live bands on Saturday nights.
Now, owner Tommy O’Neill is planning to turn the premises into a childcare facility.
Planning permission has been sought from Donegal County Council by Mr O’Neill.
He is seeking permission for a change of use from the existing licensed premises to use as a childcare facility providing full day care services.
The proposed development includes demolition of a flat roof extension to the rear and modifications to the internal layout of the premises.
He is also seeking the go ahead for minor alteration to window openings and a reconfiguration of eternal pedestrian access ramps, signage and associated site development works.
Donegal County Council expect a decision to be made by October 22, 2023.
