Letterkenny gardaí appealed to east Donegal residents to contact if their car was tampered with
Gardaí in Letterkenny have appealed to east Donegal residents to make contact if their car was tampered with over the weekend following separate thefts and attempted thefts in Convoy, Raphoe and Castlefin.
In Convoy, a theft from a car in Ballyboe took place in the early hours of Saturday, January 20, approximately between midnight and 6 am. The car was unlocked and had been parked overnight in the driveway of a house when entry was gained to it. During the theft, a sum of cash and a purse containing cards was stolen from the car.
Gardaí were contacted by a number of residents of Sessiagh Park, Castlefin concerning recent attempted thefts from their vehicles. The attempted break-ins occurred between midnight and 6am on Saturday, January 20. The vehicles were all unlocked and entry is believed to have been gained, although nothing was stolen.
A theft took place at The Common, Raphoe. Entry was gained into a van and a handbag, a purse, a sum of cash and some shopping vouchers were stolen from within. No damage was caused to the van. This theft occurred In the early hours of Sunday, January 21 between midnight and 9:30am.
“We appeal to residents in any of the above areas or any surrounding areas to make contact with Gardaí if their vehicle was also tampered with in any way on those dates even if nothing was stolen from them,” Garda Sean Sweeney has said.
“We believe that other vehicles may have been entered and the owners have not yet contacted us. If this is the case we urge them to do so. These thefts and attempted thefts in Castlefin, Raphoe and Convoy took place during the night and under the cover of darkness. We appeal to everybody to be vigilant.
“Always report suspicious activity/vehicles/people in your area to gardaí without delay. Please ensure that your vehicle is locked at all times when left unattended regardless of whether it is parked at home or in a public place.
“Never leave cash or other valuables in your vehicle. Try to park in a well-lit area if possible.
“We appeal to anybody who may have observed any suspicious activity/vehicles in the area to make contact with Gardaí in Letterkenny on 074-9167100. The Garda Confidential line may be contacted on 1800 666 111.”
