ATU launches 1916 Bursary application drive for first-year students

The Bursary offers students three levels of financial aid

Atlantic Technological University (ATU) opens applications for the 2025/2026 1916 Bursary, part of a national effort to encourage participation and success by students who are most socio-economically disadvantaged and from groups most under-represented in higher education.

Applicants must meet certain criteria including be first time entrants of an undergraduate programme with a household reckonable income of less than €27,400. Meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee a bursary, as the number of bursaries is limited.

The Bursary offers students three levels of financial aid: Tier 1: €5,000 per annum, Tier 2: €2,000 per annum and Tier 3: A one-off payment of €1,500. Students who receive Tier 1 or 2 bursaries during their undergraduate studies can continue receiving support for postgraduate studies.

Dr Celia Keenaghan, WNW Connect Cluster Coordinator based at ATU highlights that the Bursary is part of a range of supports available through the Access and Widening Participation Service; “We encourage all eligible students to apply and access the support they need to reach their full potential at ATU.”

For more information, including full eligibility criteria and application guidelines, visit the ATU’s 1916 Bursary information web page. Applications close on 10 October 2025 at 5pm.
