‘Not good enough’ - Decision to overlook St Eunan’s College for funding slammed

A Donegal county councillor has labelled the decision to overlook St Eunan’s College in Letterkenny for funding under the first tranche of the National Development Plan rollout for 2026 and 2027 as “shocking.”

St Eunan’s College, with over 1,000 students and a growing waiting list, currently can’t take any more students was again unsuccessful in a €7.6bn country wide announcement which left only one school successful in Donegal - St Columba’s in Stranorlar.

Fianna Fáil’s Cllr Donal Mandy Kelly said: “To say I'm disappointed is an absolute understatement this is shocking news for St Eunan’s College and everyone involved.

“This extension was and is vital for the provision of second level education in Letterkenny and beyond.

“St Eunan’s College currently has one art room, two woodwork/construction rooms, two science labs and two technical graphics/DCG rooms. The new extension would provide 37 general classrooms, 20 specialist teaching rooms and more facilities.

“After all the hard work put in here  particularly by the School Principal, staff, committee, student council and parents etc this is very disappointing and alot of questions need answering which I will be seeking answers to.

“I’m very disappointed after previous Ministers for Education and TDs’ visits in recent years and months saw first hand the importance of this extension and on top of this were made very aware of the current planning application deadline which is due to run out. This is not good enough.”
