Martin Scanlon
Independent candidate, Martin Scanlon, was finally hoisted on bulging Glenfin shoulders after he topped the poll to be elected on the fifth count in the Lifford-Stranorlar area on Sunday.
The Glenfin man surpassed the quota with a final count of 1,732 votes.
Gary Doherty (SF) was also elected with 1,629 and Niall McConnell (Ind) eliminated on 1,127, leaving just five candidates to fill the remaining four seats.
It now looks like Debutante Dakota Nic Mheanman (SF) and the veteran Gerry Crawford (FF) will be left to fight it out for the last seat.
Following the distribution of Charles Ward’s votes, the current standing is as follows: Martin Scanlon (Ind) and Gary Doherty (SF) deemed elected on 1,732 and on 1,629 votes respectively. The remaining candidates are: Martin Harley (FG) on 1,562, Frank McBrearty (Ind) on 1,493, Patrick McGowan (FF) 1,358, Dakota Nic Mheanman (SF) on 1,193 and Gerry Crawford (FF) on 1,163.
Scanlon and Doherty’s surpluses will now be distributed.
