Dr Nuala Carr, the Green Party candidate
Dr Nuala Carr says she wants Donegal to work to work to a “more resilient future”.
The Letterkenny native has been confined as the Green Party candidate in Donegal for the forthcoming General Election.
Dr Carr has just completed a PhD through Queen’s University Belfast and is working at Atlantic Technological University (ATU) on an EU funded research project to harmonise the skills and training needs for the offshore wind energy industry.
Dr Carr has a background in ecology and with her current studies in the social sciences, she says she is very aware of the “urgent need” to address the many social and environmental issues required to promote sustainable practices in local communities throughout Donegal.
“It would be a privilege to represent the people of Donegal and work together towards a more resilient future,” she said.
Michael White, Chairperson of the Donegal Green party, said Dr Carr’s candidacy supports the party’s drive for gender balance.

He added: “Irish Greenhouse Gas emissions peaked in 2023 for the first time, due to the Green Party being in government.
“There are also record numbers of people retrofitting houses in Donegal, a huge uptake in the plastic bottle return scheme, and a big increase in the number of Local Link bus services around the county. All these are due to the Green Party. It’s important that people vote for Nuala in this election so we can continue to deliver results and fight climate change. Only the Green Party has this focus”.
