Almost 1,000 homes and businesses in the Finn Valley area were left without power on Saturday morning.

The outage mainly affected premises in Ballybofey and Stranorlar.

In the Twin Towns, the ESB said a total of 854 customers were hit by a blackout between 10-11am.

A further 102 premises near Lifford were also hit with a power outage. The ESB estimate that power will be restored to all those by 4pm. ESB crews are working to repair the issue.

The eSB said: “We apologise for the loss of supply. We are currently working to repair a fault affecting your premises and will restore power as quickly as possible.”

It follows a night of heavy rainfall and strong winds in Donegal.

Met Eireann say that further falls of heavy or thundery rain are expected throughout Saturday with strong winds at times, especially near coasts.
