Setanta got the better of 14-man neighbours MacCumhaills in a game dominated by a gusting gale and driving rain at the Cross.

The visitors lost midfielder Fintan Griffin ten minutes into the second half and Setanta took full advantage.

MacCumhaills had the benefit of the elements in the opening period and led 0-7 to 0-6 at the break.

But inspired by Oisin Marley, who hit 0-14, Setanta steamed well clear in the second-half for a comprehensive win.

MacCumhaills trio Jamie De Ward, Dan Donnelly (free) and Dean Hannigan all scored points to put them into a 0-3 to 0-0 lead after ten minutes.

Oisin Marley (free) and Dean Harvey then swapped points with Dan Donnelly who landed a free for MacCumhaills and Noel Ewing replied for Setanta, which left the visitors leading by 0-4 to 0-3 with 20 minutes gone.

Marley then landed a 65’ and Jacob Malone and Donnelly (free) and Marley pointed in the 26th minute.

Points were exchanged between Marely and Donnelly to leave MacCumhaills leading by 0-7 to 0-6 at half-time.

Richie Kee and Marley (0-4) then pushed the home side into a 0-11 to 0-7 lead at the three-quarter hour mark. MacCumhaills’ only score of the second half came from a Donnelly free.

Marley hit five points on the trot to leave Setanta leading by 0-16 to 0-8 with five minutes to go.

Sean D’Arcy, Bernard Lafferty and Marley concluded the scoring.
