Daire McDaid saved table-toppers Termon with two late points against Downings at a windy Páirc na Dúnaibh on Sunday afternoon.

Termon, promoted from Division Two last season, extended their unbeaten run to eight games - six wins and two draws - following this share of the spoils with the locals.

The elusive McDaid was also his team’s top scorer, finishing with 1-7. His goal, from the penalty spot, was the game’s opening score and got the pace-setters off to a lightning start.

They led for most of a cracking contest until late on when Ronan Gallagher netted for Downings, also from the penalty spot, to edge the locals ahead with under five minutes of normal time remaining.

But in the closing seconds, McDaid struck again to level the game and secure a point for the visitors. The result keeps Termon top of Division One on 14 points, four ahead of second-placed St Eunan’s.

Downings are six points further back on eight and sit in seventh place in the league standings.
