St. Eunan’s 6-33 Carndonagh 0-2
St. Eunan’s had an easy win over Carndonagh in Round 3 of the senior hurling championship in O’Donnell Park on Friday.
Carndonagh, decimated by injuries since their strong showing against Buncrana in the last outing, could not match the pace and firepower of the home team at any stage of the game. In wet and very windy conditions the Letterkenny men used the ball well, setting up a succession of scores.
By the end of the first quarter, they had opened up a ten-point lead, with four points from Cathal O’Brien, three from Brian MacIntyre and a brace each from John Kealy and Russell Forde.
A Luke White free was the sole reply. The game was over as a contest by the 15th minute when O’Brien finished to the net from close range.
With the home defence and midfield completely on top the relentless scoring continued. Forde, MacIntyre and Peter Kelly hit two points each, with O’Brien, Kealy, Ryan Hilferty and Conor O’Grady adding further points. Kelly got on the end of a sweeping move to hit a second goal, leaving the score at 2-21 to 0-1 at the break.
Early points from Kealy, Kelly, David Horgan and Matt Ahern were followed by goals from Kealy, Kelly and Cian Randles around the three-quarter mark.
Randles, who was causing a lot of problems, added another point along with Ahern, O’Brien and Kelly. Darragh McCormick pointed for the visitors.
In the final ten minutes, O’Brien and Forde added further points, while Kelly added to his fine personal total with two points and a run through the defence to hit a final goal.
