Two Donegal men certainly had their shooting boots on in the ​All-Ireland JFC semi-finals on Friday night, although neither will be lining out at Croke Park for the final.

Gaoth Dobhair's James Carroll scored eight points for Kilkenny in their 1-17 to 0-17 loss to London at the GAA National Centre of Excellence in Abbotstown, while Red Hughs' Jack Gillespie managed to score 0-5 for Warwickshire in their 2-12 to 1-11 loss to London.

Carroll, who was part of the Donegal U-21 panel that won Ulster and reached an All-Ireland final in 2010, scored a two-pointer in the first half as Kilkenny, who had former Donegal defender Patrick McConigley on the management team. Kilkenny were four points up in the first half but went in level at 0-8 apiece.

A goal from London's Ali Carney would prove decisive, with Carroll finishing with five frees, one from play and that first-half two-pointer to his name.

Gillespie's Warwickshire were also four to the good at a stage, only to be outscored 2-7 to 1-2 in the closing 20 minutes. The Coventry-based side's goal came late on when Gillespie, who scored two from play and three frees, set up Jack Keogh.
