Aodh Ruadh get the win over St Mary’s  to get second promotion place

Diarmaid McInerney - chipped in with 0-9 for Aodh Ruadh

St Mary’s, Convoy 0-11

Aodh Ruadh 1-18

Aodh Ruadh will contest the Division 2 League final after their win over St Mary’s, Convoy. They finished level with Naomh Muire, Lower Rosses, but by virtue of a superior scoring difference, they get the second spot behind Dungloe.

There had been some confusion last week with St Naul’s conceding their league game to the Ballyshannon side but the Donegal CCC made the decision that scoring difference would be the decider. Aodh Ruadh and Naomh Muire drew their league game so head to head could not be used.

A goal from Shane McGrath as well as four points from Diarmaid McInerney including a two pointer and one from Eddie Lynch had Aodh Ruadh 1-5  ahead before St Mary’s got their opening score, a two point free.

By half-time Aodh Ruadh were 1-10 to 0-6 ahead, Nathan Boyle adding four points from two two pointers.

The scoring pattern was much similar in the second half with Diarmaid McInerney again opening the scoring with a free.

By the mid-way mark of the second half Aodh Ruadh were 1-14 to 0-8 ahead with Shane McGrath and Eamon McGrath among the scorers.

St Mary’s did reply with three points, one of them a two pointer, but the Ballyshannon side finished the half well with points from McInerney and Cian Rooney and a final point from McInerney.

Aodh Ruadh scorers: Diarmaid McInerney 0-9,6f,1tp; Nathan Boyle 0-4,2tp; Shane McGrath 1-2; Eddie Lynch, Eamonn McGrath, Cian Rooney 0-1 each.

Aodh Ruadh: Peter Boyle; Kyle Murray, Conor Patton, Eoghan Kelly; Shane Delahunty, Eddie Lynch, Niall Murray; Eamonn McGrath, Matt Gillespie; Nathan Boyle, Shane McGrath, Diarmaid McInerney; Eoin Cassidy, Cian Dolan, Jack Gallagher.
