Brendan Cawley is the front-runner to take charge of Donegal’s All-Ireland SFC final clash with Kerry on Sunday week.  

The Kildare native was in charge of last season's All-Ireland semi-final when Galway edged out Donegal at Croke Park and was also in the middle, this summer, as Donegal retained their Ulster SFC title when Jim McGuinness’ side saw off Armagh in extra-time.

Brendan Cawley's decision to penalise Ciaran Thompson in that semi-final oss to the Tribesmen, for touching the ball on the ground late on at Croke Park, drew furious irk of green and gold followers at the time as it replayed on the giant screen immediately after.

The GAA are expected to confirm that appointment later on this week.
