As All-Ireland fever grips Donegal, planning permission has been sought for additional floodlighting at the Donegal GAA Centre in Convoy.,
A planning application was submitted to Donegal County Council in respect of the proposed works.
The applicant, Michael McMenamin, listed as the planning and training officer for the County Board of CLG Dhun na nGall, is seeking the go ahead for the erection of floodlighting to pitch 3 and pitch 4 at the centre, located at Broadpath, Convoy.
The local authority say that a decision is due by September 8, 2025.
Jim McGuinness’s senior football team are among the many team who utilise the Donegal GAA Centre on a weekly basis. It is here where the plans will be honed over the next week as they get ready to face Kerry in the All-Ireland final on July 27.
In October 2022, the then GAA President Larry McCarthy officially opened the Donegal GAA Centre.
The process began in 2006 when the Donegal County Board and various development officers began the process of acquiring land with approval given for the purchase of the Convoy site in 2009.
Planning permission was granted in 2009, the following year saw the site development of the first two pitches, with completion by 2012 and county teams using the facility for training for the first time in 2013.

Floodlights were added on two pitches in 2014 and work began on another two pitches in 2015.
In September 2018, McDermott and Trearty Construction Ltd began works on construction of the buildings which was completed by 2020, with the gym and auditorium fitted out, following a successful house draw.
