Erne Gaels boss Declan Bonner
It’s the end of the road for Declan Bonner and Erne Gael Belleek as Kilcoo booked their place in a fifth Ulster Club football final in six years after a convincing 4-12 to 1-10 victory at the Athletic Grounds.
The Down champions struck twice in each half. Paul Devlin and Eugene Branagan raised green flags before the interval, while second-half goals from Shealan Johnston and Ceilum Doherty ensured they stayed well in control.
Erne Gaels’ response was limited to a couple of points from Ryan Lyons and a late goal by Seamus Ryder, which offered little more than consolation.
Their evening worsened when Shane Rooney was dismissed in stoppage time after picking up a second yellow card.
Bonner - who now takes up the reins with Fermanagh - was missing centre forward Thomas McCafferty, who had married in Rome the previous day, although Barry McCann and Lyons did start after returning on a late flight from Italy.
Erne Gaels, who were beaten by Errigal Ciaran after extra time in last year’s final, will now turn their focus to going further next season.
Kilcoo, aiming for their first Ulster title since 2021 and only their third despite years of dominance in Down, will face the winners of Sunday’s semi-final between Scotstown and Newbridge in the decider on the weekend of 6–7 December.
Speaking after, Bonner said he had no complaints about the result.
“Kilcoo are a force, a serious team. We coughed up possession and got caught on the counter a few times.
“But the lads put in a serious effort and we have no complaints. We were beaten by the better team on the day.
“But it’s been an amazing two years. I spoke to the lads inside and I told them it was a brilliant journey. It’s a great club and they are a brilliant bunch. I’ve no doubt they’ll push on in 2026”.
