Caolan Ward has announced his departure from the Donegal senior county team.

The St Eunan’s defender represented the county for the best part of a decade, making his debut in the Dr McKenna Cup in 2013 against Fermanagh, but he didn’t nail a place in the team until 2017 under Rory Gallagher.

He made his league debut in 2016 against Mayo and would go on to play in the championship in 2017, starting against Antrim.

The St Eunan’s College teacher picked up Ulster titles in 2018 and 2019 under Declan Bonner and was an important player for the county team during this period.

However, injuries limited his chances since the return of Jim McGuinness and he has decided to call time on his intercounty career.

“What a blast it’s been,” Ward said on Instagram as he confirmed his departure.

“Grateful and honoured to be given the opportunity to represent Donegal over the past 10 years.

“Memories to last a lifetime.”
