Sean MacCumhaills have continued their incredible Ulster journey with another big win against Ballygalget in Ballinascreen.
Facing into the contest without the spine of their team due to injury, MacCumhaills were once again forced to dig deep, and the response from this young panel was nothing short of outstanding.
Against a physically strong and well-organised Ballygalget side, the Twin Towns men showed huge character, tactical discipline and work-rate across the pitch to earn their place in the Ulster Final.
Ballygalget struck for two goals over the course of the game, but MacCumhaills’ ability to keep the scoreboard ticking proved decisive. Time and again, they worked the ball intelligently into scoring positions, converting chances and refusing to allow their opponents to build momentum. Their tally of 15 points was built on patience, accuracy, and relentless pressure.
Once again, Dylan Patton was central to the victory, finishing with an impressive 0-9, including six frees, showing composure and leadership beyond his years. However, this was very much a team effort, with several players stepping up in key moments.
Special mention must go to Dan Donnelly, whose influence around the pitch was immense. Donnelly’s work-rate, physical presence and intelligent use of possession set the tone for MacCumhaills throughout the game.
His point from play was richly deserved, but it was his constant support of both defence and attack that proved invaluable, helping MacCumhaills maintain control during crucial phases of the match.
Strong performances were also delivered by Rory Doherty (0-2), Daimhin Byrne (0-1) and Sean Óg Hannigan (0-1), while the defensive unit worked tirelessly to limit Ballygalget’s scoring opportunities despite sustained pressure.
This victory comes hot on the heels of last weekend’s Ulster Shield success, underlining the depth, resilience and quality within this minor hurling group. To overcome two championship-winning sides in successive weeks is a testament to the commitment of the players and management alike.
Attention now turns to the Ulster Minor Hurling Cup Final, where Seán MacCumhaills will look to cap off an already memorable provincial campaign. The entire club and community will be right behind the lads as they prepare for another huge occasion.
Sean MacCumhaills will play Antrim champions Cushendall in the final next week, after they beat Derry's Kevin Lynch’s by 1-14 to 2-8 thanks to a late goal.
