Jim McGuinness content to stick to current Donegal backroom team dynamic

Jim McGuinness says that he’s more than happy with the current Donegal backroom team and isn’t in any rush to bulk numbers.

Luke Barrett’s departure prompted plenty of speculation that the manager would replenish the set-up with a fresh face.

However, speaking after his side’s 1-15 to 0-7 McKenna Cup win away to Antrim, McGuinness says the current dynamic is comfortable and familiar.

And while the door remains open going forward, there won’t be any change just for the sake of it.

“No, nothing at the minute,” McGuinness said when pressed on any new additions. “We’re happy enough with where we’re at. Of course, we keep the radar on in all of that and keep the thing open.

“We’ve made some adjustments internally, moving the furniture about with lads taking on more responsibility and so on. But we’re very happy with where we’re at.

“Everyone who is there knows each other well and there is a high level of trust. It’s enjoyable with what we have so we don’t feel the need at the moment to change any of that”.

Coincidentally, Barrett - who has since hooked up with Ciaran Meenagh in Derry - will be in the opposite dugout on Wednesday night as Donegal take on the Oak Leafers in the McKenna Cup semi-finals.

That game has been fixed for Celtic Park, with a 7.30pm throw-in.
