Pairc Naomh Brid, Trummon
Pairc Naomh Brid, Trummon will host its biggest game since its opening in 1992 when the MacRory Cup semi-final takes place there on Sunday with a 2 pm throw-in.
Abbey VS, Donegal Town will face St Pat’s Academy, Dungannon for the honour of playing in the MacRory Cup final. Because of the unavailability of neutral pitches, a draw was made on Wednesday and Abbey VS secured the home draw.
After a 24-hour wait, it has been decided that the game will take place at the home pitch of Naomh Brid. Abbey’s opening game in the MacRory Cup before Christmas against St Michael’s, Enniskillen, was hosted at Tirconaill Park, Donegal Town but that pitch is not available at the moment.
It will be a big day for the Naomh Brid club to host such a prestigious game. Their opening game back in 1993 saw Donegal play Clare in an intercounty challenge and this game will rival that.
Abbey VS are one step away from back-to-back MacRory Cup finals. They were edged out in the final last year by eventual All-Ireland champions St Pat’s, Maghera, and it is a measure of the talent that is available at the Donegal Town school that they are back in the mix again this year.
They are captained by Conor McCahill, who has a Dr McKenna Cup medal to his credit after being part of the Donegal side that defeated Monaghan last weekend.
