Neil McGee not concerned about Donegal All-Ireland final critique: ‘We’ve moved on’ 

Neil McGee says others might still be analysing Donegal’s loss to Kerry in last term’s All-Ireland final but he insists the group has long since moved on. 

Both sides met in the NFL in Ballyshannon at the weekend with Jim McGuinness’ men coming out on top 1-22 to 1-18.

“It was a long winter”, McGee said on last July’s All-Ireland final defeat.

Speaking to TG4 afterwards, the Donegal selector Neil McGee and 2012 All-Ireland winner felt the hosts were full value for Sunday’s win but said there could have been a little more breathing space in victory. 

“There were times we could have pushed on. Seán O’Shea kept them in it, his frees were excellent. 

“When you’re three or four points up under the new rules, it’s still very dangerous”.

Pressed on the learnings Donegal took from summer’s hurt on Jones Road, a game they lost in the end by ten points, the three-time All-Star said: “We didn’t react well enough in the All-Ireland final. 

“Kerry came out and got physical with us and we didn’t handle it properly. That’s something we’ve looked at.

“We’re not going to overdo it. But you have to stand up for yourselves.

“There’s a lot of talk about how we play, but for us it’s 11 v 11 every phase of play.

We’ve tweaked a few things this year, but we’ve identified where the game was lost last year and we’re working on that now”.
