Kevin Cassidy believes Donegal have every right to believe they’re a match for anyone at this moment in time given the form Jim McGuinness’ side is in.

They top Division 1 of the NFL and are within touching distance of a place in the decider.

They go to Dr Hyde Park on Sunday week knowing that a win over Roscommon will as good as punch their ticket to the top-tier showpiece.

Looking down the line, the two-time All-Star says come the business end of the championship, he sees Donegal, Kerry and possibly Armagh as having a little edge on the chasing pack.

However, the Gaoth Dobhair native errs on the side of caution as he believes Donegal need to be cautious and indeed, get the rub of the green when it comes to injuries to key personnel.

“Donegal will be happy enough but they won’t be getting carried away,” he said on The View GAA podcast. “Donegal are at full tilt where a lot of other teams have lads to come back in.

“Taking one thing away from the Galway game, we have 17 or 18 of the best players in the country right now.

“If they’re on the pitch, I think Kerry and possibly Armagh might stay with us. But if we were to lose one or two that’s when I’d start to be concerned.

“We have good young lads but are they ready for this stage? So that’s a thing Jim will keep an eye on.

“Will they go down to Roscommon full tilt? Michael Murphy, going by reports, is going to play in Roscommon.

“Donegal are nearly there and a win at Dr Hyde Park would put them in the final. Then it would be all about who they face there”.
