Donegal are clocking up the miles this weekend as they continue their push for promotion with an away tie against Tipperary on Sunday, in Clonmel. (Throw-in 1pm)

With two games to play, James Daly’s ladies are in a good position sitting in second place in the table just one point adrift of Cavan with Tyrone, in third place and Mayo in fourth place lurking in the background.

Donegal (12) hold a two-point advantage over Tyrone (10) and they have five points to spare over Mayo and Tipperary on (7). The top two teams are promoted and will meet in the Division Two final.

“We are in a good position going into the last two games against Tipperary on Sunday away and Wexford at home the following weekend,” said Donegal assistant manager and coach Bernard McGeehan.

“It is a matter of keeping our focus and taking it one game at a time. The focus this week is on Tipperary and going down to Tipperary and getting the result.

“Tipperary are a good side and there has been very little between us in recent meetings. We beat them at home here in Donegal and they beat us in the championship down in Tipperary.

“And I expect it to be no different on Sunday. But the form is good in the squad after their win over Mayo last week, in Mayo.

“That was a very good result and a great response after losing to Cavan, in the previous round in Ballyshannon.

“It was a really hard game played in trying conditions and it not only took skill but great heart and character to win.

That defeat to the Breffni Blues was the only blemish on another exemplary early season report card for Donegal.

Previous to losing to Cavan, Donegal had registered three straight wins over Westmeath, Monaghan and Tyrone.

"The Cavan blip apart, we are very satisfied with the games that have gone so far. Cavan are a good team and are very much in the mix for promotion too.

“They have a big game this weekend too. They play Tyrone in what is also a crunch match for both Cavan and Tyrone but it could also be a defining result for the league.”

McGeehan hopes that Donegal will now kick on following the win over Mayo and the Sean McCumhaills club man also heralded the return of a number of senior players to the squad and the injection of youth with a number of minor players making the step up to senior.

“The return of Tara Hegarty, Nicole Gordon and Ciara McGarvey has greatly strengthened the squad and not alone for skill and football ability but also for the experience they bring to the squad.

“We felt we were lacking that experience last season and it cost us games. But the return of Tara, Nicole and Ciara has addressed that issue as the results and performances to date have shown.

“The introduction of Ava Caulfield from last year’s minor team along with Aoife McDermott and Elisha Boyle from this year’s minor team has greatly added to our options.”

Apart from a number of niggly injuries which are expected to clear up before the weekend Donegal have no injury worries and have a fully fit squad for the clash with Tipperary.
