Donegal U-20 boss Gary Boyle says his side showed real grit to dig out a championship win over Derry at Celtic Park.

Ger Dillon looked to have earned the young Oak Leafers a share of the spoils with a late two-point free, but Boyle’s charges had the final say thanks to their Glencolmcille sharpshooter.

“We’re delighted with the character the lads showed,” Boyle said after. “We got a good start and then it was all square at half-time. It was tit-for-tat down the home straight.

“I was very happy with them in that last seven or eight minutes. When the game was there to be won they went after it. They got what they deserved.

“They just keep going and going. And I’d expect nothing less from them”.

Donegal now go straight into the semi-finals and Boyle says his squad will be looking forward to home advantage there.

“It should be an advantage for us, playing on our home pitch. It’s a similar position to what we were in last year.

“One thing we did discuss at the start of the season, when we first got together, was that we wanted to give ourselves a chance to get back to an Ulster final.

“And that’s where we want to get to”.
