Defending Division 1 champions Termon made it three wins from three at the Burn Road on Saturday as Daire McDaid’s brilliant 1-13 haul helped see off Naomh Muire.

The hosts led 0-14 to 1-3 at the end of the opening period and while the visitors improved after the changeover and especially down the stretch, Caolan McDaid’s outfit still pulled up with seven to spare.

At the end of the opening quarter, Termon, pushing up on Declan Ward’s kickout and winning the midsection battle, were 5-2 to the good.

Garry McGettigan, Jack Alcorn, twice, McDaid and Shea Boyle grabbed the points for the home charges while Darragh White and Cathal McFee raised the white flags for Danny O’Donnell’s outfit.

Moving into the second quarter, that aforementioned squeeze really tightened, with McDaid nailing four points on the trot, including a two-point free and a ‘45.

Ciaran Cassidy also got in on the act and with McDaid grabbing three more from play, including a two-pointer, Termon were out to an eleven-point lead, three minutes out from the midpoint.

Joey Gillespie stemmed the tide for the men from the Banks, and with Eoin Martin firing in a goal, the scoreboard now read 0-13 to 1-3.

However, a McDaid free would bring the curtain down on a dominant first-half for the maroon and white.

Fee got Naomh Muire going right away on the resumption, while McDaid again showed his class with a neatly taken effort from play.

The same players again traded overs before McDaid blasted to the net and 1-16 now led 1-5.

Naomh Muire would then start to give as good as they got as the likes of Martin, with a two-point free, and McDaid again, were on the mark at either end.

Gillespie and usual suspect McDaid also traded scores and with home midfielder Kevin McGettigan also registering, that left Termon 1-19 to 1-8 in front, seven minutes out from time.

Ryan McFadden and Rory McGrenra would round off the scoring for the winners and with Naomh Muire landing the last six points, a little gloss was added to the final score.

Substitute Harry Harden got that late spurt going, Fee added another while Martin chipped in with four down the stretch, including a two-point free.
