Two of Donegal’s 2012 All-Ireland winners faced off against one another on Friday at the University of Galway Connacht GAA Air Dome.

Mark McHugh’s Roscommon managed to get the better of Sligo, who have Paul Durcan as part of the backroom team, in the semi-final of the FBD Connacht GAA Senior Football League on a 3-17 to 2-13 scoreline.

Galway will provide the opposition for Roscommon in the western season curtainraiser, with new manager Kevin McStay overseeing a 2-18 to 3-12 win over All-Ireland finalists Galway on Saturday.

Kilcar native McHugh is a coach with new Roscommon manager Davy Burke, while Durcan, who is from Donegal Town and a clubman of Four Masters, now lives in the Yeats County and has lined out for Drumcliffe–Rosses Point. Both were teammates in 2012 when Donegal beat Mayo 2-11 to 0-13 to lift Sam Maguire. Later that same year, both McHugh and Durcan were named as All-Stars.

Roscommon open their Allianz League Division 1 campaign against Tyrone on Sunday, January 29, at Hyde Park and Sligo, who have another of Donegal’s All-Ireland winners Colm McFadden as a forwards coach, welcome Laois to Markievicz Park the same day.
