Former Donegal captain Michael Murphy was one of the winners of DCU’s annual Alumni Awards honoured at a celebration in The Helix at DCU’s Glasnevin campus, joined by friends and family.

The DCU Alumni Awards are presented annually to graduates who have made substantial achievements in their chosen fields, or who have contributed in a significant way to the social, artistic or economic development of Ireland.

Murphy was also honoured at the awards today. Michael graduated from PE with Biology in DCU in 2013. He is Head of Sport at Atlantic Technological University (ATU) Donegal and late last year retired as an intercounty footballer after 17 years’ representing Donegal.

Other winners included Cleona Ní Chrualaoi, producer of An Cailín Ciúin, who graduated from the BA in Journalism in DCU in 2001. An Cailín Ciúin, has become the highest grossing Irish-language film of all time and yesterday was nominated for Best Film Not in the English Language and Best Adapted Screenplay at the BAFTA Awards. The DCU community includes approximately 100,000 graduates based in all corners of the globe.
