The recent AGM at Ardara GAA Club saw a major change with long-time secretary, Mary Kelly (McHugh) stepping down from the role.

She had been club secretary since 2010, but her involvement at officer level went back as far as 1987, when she first came in as treasurer.

In the years that followed Mary was assistant secretary, PRO, Oifigeach na Gaeilge, Southern Board PRO.

Mary has also been a club delegate to Co. Committee meetings and was one of the main drivers at the introduction of Ladies football to Donegal back in 1992.

“It was a difficult decision but I felt I was long enough there and there was a need for change. It was time for other people to step up,” said Mary this week.

She has been replaced in the role of secretary by Mairead Mulreany, who was the assistant secretary.

While she has stepped down as secretary, Mary says she will still help out, especially on match days with the shop and other things.
