Termon manager, Trevor Alcorn
Termon were runaway winners over Naomh Brid in their Division 2 clash at Trummon on Saturday evening and manager, Trevor Alcorn, wants them to enjoy football and keep their momentum.
Against a Naomh Brid side ravaged by injury, the visitors racked up a 5-17 to 0-6 win with Ryan McFadden impressive at midfield.
“We’ve a lot of players back, even from the last couple of years. Look, we’re fortunate enough, coming down from playing big sides last year in big games while it's a struggle for teams like Naomh Brid to keep groups together, coming up from Division 3 to Division 2 and you want to survive and give it a good rattle.
“We had the bother too at times when we hadn’t the numbers and then Naomh Brid are missing a lot of players today, missing a lot of quality players.
“It’s not that you’re going out to put up big scores against teams, it’s just that you want to keep the momentum,” said Alcorn, who brought off many of his top players early in the second half to give others a chance.
But they were keen to impress also so it remained a difficult game for the home side, Naomh Brid.
“To be fair we are very, very lucky to have that strength in depth in that the players you are putting on are no worse than the players coming off.”
Termon had Jamie Grant and Ryan McFadden available for the game. “Ryan pulled the pin with Donegal and was looking forward to club football. I think he got valuable training with Donegal but we’re glad to have him back. I don’t know why he is not in favour.
“Jamie (Grant) is still in the Donegal squad but he was not in the panel for this weekend so whenever he can he makes himself available to play with us. He is just mad to play football,” said Alcorn, who listed out players who were out at the moment including big Bobby McGettigan, Enda McCormack, Stephen and Conor Black out; you have Oisin Cassidy out and Nathan McElwaine, you’re trying to get them back for championship.
“But it is brilliant to have that competition for places.
“We have Glenties in the Gaeltacht this week and it’s hard to know how we will approach that. We didn’t really set our sights on the Gaeltacht as we didn’t think we would be ready to compete that early in the year. We were fortunate enough against Dungloe and it was the same against Falcarragh, it went to extra-time.
“Glenties are a different animal altogether but we have a free crack at them. It will give us an idea of where we are at.
“We’re enjoying that momentum in Division 2. We set out to get the players' confidence back up. They were on the end of a lot of beatings last year in Division 1 so we’re trying to get them playing enjoyable football,” said Alcorn.
