CJ Molloy of New York celebrates a score during the All-Ireland Junior Football Championship final against Kilkenny
CJ Molloy was an All-Ireland JFC winner when his New York side pipped Kilkenny at Croke Park.
The Ardara full-forward, who was born in the United States and is the nephew of Donegal's 1992 All-Ireland winning captain Anthony Molloy, kicked the opening score in his team's 0-13 to 1-9 win, with James Carroll from Gaoth Dobhair scoring three points for the beaten finalists. Johnny Dunleavy of Sean MacCumhaill's was part of the Kilkenny panel, who had Patrick McConigley - an Allianz League Division 1 winner with Donegal in 2007 - of Gaeil Fhánada as a selector.
Having lost to the same opponents in last year's final, New York looked as though they would come up short again, trailing by two points with Shay McElligot and Brian Coughlan helping to turn the tide. New York had led 0-7 to 0-3 at half-time but in the second half Kilkenny began to dominate and Mick Kenny managed a 44th minute goal for the Cats.
It was level with 10 to play but points from Ciaran Quilty and Carroll, who was a member of Donegal's Ulster U-21 winners in 2010 under Jim McGuinness, put Kilkenny in a good position late on. However, the Exiles came through and Croke Park basked to the sound of Frank Sinatra's 'New York, New York'.
