Donegal ladies will take on Waterford in the All-Ireland Minor C decider - a contest that has been fixed for Kinnegad in Westmeath on Saturday, August 5.

Donegal annihilated Leitrim in a one-sided semi-final contest in Lisnaskea last Wednesday night on a scoreline of 4-18 to 0-2.

Declan McDermott’s side had good showings all over the park with the likes of senior stars Abigail Temple Asokuh and Katie Dowds especially influential. Aisling O’Neill top scored on the night with 1-4 while Tara Geoghegan, Síle Ní Fhearraigh and Dowds also netted goals.

Kilcar’s Eva Gallagher also made a welcome return to the side having missed the previous two months due to injury.

Speaking after, she says the hurt still carried from last term’s All-Ireland semi-final loss was what really drove them on this time out.

“We didn’t know what to expect from Leitrim. We went into it with the aim of getting to an All-Ireland final. We lost a semi-final last year so we didn’t want to feel that today.

“We’ve been training since November. We’ve also been using an S&C trainer so there’s been really good progress”.

With the likes of Temple Asokuh and Dowds taking Ulster SFC medals back into the mix, Gallagher says that high-profile pair are leading examples in the squad of just how far hard work can take you.

“With the girls being involved with the senior set up that was a huge boost for us and seeing their progress has definitely inspired us as well. They’ve set a great example for all of us”.

Donegal now have a fortnight to prepare for their All-Ireland final clash with Waterford and Gallagher says the hard work really starts now ahead of that clash.

“There were some nerves against Leitrim but once we settled we really got into it. It was my first game back after eight weeks, I’d picked up an injury, so it was great to get through it.

“We’ll prepare for the All-Ireland final now as best we can and we’ll turn attention to all of that back at training this week”.
