Age 22. He played at right full-back for his native Roscommon when they won the All-Ireland U-21 title in 1978. Transferred to Inishowen club Urris this year. Took the injured Matt Gallagher's place before the Ulster semi-final and Charlie Mulgrew's place before the Ulster final. His mother is a devine from Illistrin. Teacher in Carndonagh Community School.
Now retired, Des lives in Dublin.
