Donegal minor star Ulitah Boyle aiming to put legendary dad Tony in the shade!

Ulitah Boyle was a real source of power and running in the middle of the field for Donegal as they seem off the challenge of Waterford to lift the All-Ireland Minor C title

Donegal minor star Ulitah Boyle aiming to put legendary dad Tony in the shade!

Ulitah Boyle and dad Tony, both now All-Ireland winners.

Ulitah Boyle says her dad, 1992 legend Tony Boyle, often teases both herself and her sisters about his own impressive medal haul.

But the Dungloe girl, who was simply immense in the middle of the field for Donegal in their All-Ireland MFC C final win over Waterford, hopes she can now fire back in those playful exchanges.

Donegal survived a late penalty scare on Saturday in Kinnegad to edge out a battling Waterford 1-14 to 1-9.

Speaking after Boyle, who also got on the scoresheet on the day, says the group’s hard work has earned its reward.

“”We’re buzzing, this doesn’t come easy. We have put in huge work since November and we’re just so delighted it’s paid off. It’s so worth it in the end.

“We were happy enough to get to half-time in front but we felt we could have had one or two more points on the board. But in the second-half, even against the wind, we were just really good at running the ball. We’re really worked on that to be fair.

“We seemed to be on our way there at one stage but the penalty was a scare. It sort of gave them a real jolt. But we just reset and kinda seen it out. And with Abbie (McGranaghan) grabbing the goal up the other end we knew we would come out on top”.

Dad Tony is part of Declan McDermot’s management team and Ulitah jokes that his previous boasting will now be a little quieter in the weeks ahead.

“I know all about his medals - he is good at reminding us! The hope now is to go one up on him sometime in the future if I’m lucky enough!”
