Letterkenny Gaels shared the spoils with Red Hughs in the Donegal IFC
Gaeil Leitir Ceanainn welcomed Red Hughs to Páirc na nGael on Saturday evening in the Glebe side’s first ever home game in the Donegal IFC, which ended up in a draw,
Letterkenny Gaels 1-7 Red Hughs 0-10
In the opening round last weekend, Letterkenny Gaels lost out to Malin while the Cross men overcame Naomh Muire.
It was Red Hughs who opened brightly with points from Aaron McGlinchey, Jack Bradley and a Jack Gillespie free. Conor McBrearty and Jack Gillespie then exchanged frees before McBrearty added frees in the 15th and 18th minute. Gillespie responded with another free to leave the visitors two points to the good at the break,0-5 to 0-3 in front.
Gillespie added to the Red Hughs; tally in the 37th minute with a long-range free before Gaels keeper Ryan Graham converted a ‘45. The match came to life in the 43rd minute when a direct ball from defence found full forward McBrearty who rounded several players before neatly left footing to the net to give Gaels a narrow lead.
Cian Gallagher responded for the visitors before Gaels full-back Conor Browne finished off a good attack to restore the lead. Gillespie pointed again for the visitors but Gaels responded with two placed balls from McBrearty.
Calvin Bradley got into the act when he pointed to leave one between the sides and Gillespie equalised on the 63rd minute to level the match before referee Mark McGlinchey blew the final whistle. Gaels now travel to Buncrana and Red Hughs travel to Burt.
