Despite trailing by five points at the break the Four Masters man and his side brought it back level, but late drama saw the Belfast university get the win in the Sigerson Cup

Former Donegal U-20’s player Richard O’Rourke was sprung from the bench in the hope of securing a win for ATU Sligo, who lost by one point to St Mary’s University College in the opening round of the Sigerson Cup on a scoreline of 0-9 to 0-8.

O’Rourke is joined on the panel by fellow Donegal Town teammate Brian Fegan and Aodh Ruadh player Matt Gillespie.

While Donal Gallagher from Glenswilly was the sole Donegal man to represent St Mary’s, though he did not feature in the game.

Despite St Mary’s cruising 0-7 to 0-2 at the break, they lost their way in the second-half as ATU Sligo pulled off a remarkable comeback, drawing level late on.

However, with extra-time looming, up popped O'Brien to sling over from deep to see the Belfast college advance.
