Richie Ryan was back in the Dungloe colours and he made a big difference against an understrength Setanta side in Dungloe.
The winners led by 1-5 to 0-7 at the break thanks to a well-struck goal from Niall Cleary. Conor Gallen opened the scoring with a point from play to which Brendan Boyle replied for the home side.
Caolan McClintock then edged the visitors in front but Fintan O’Toole and Ryan tacked on three points for Dungloe to put them into a 0-5 to 0-2 lead by the 16th minute.
Setanta responded through a point from a free from Kevin Campbell. Ryan Coyle and, in the 24th minute, Cleary hit a cracking goal for Setanta and Campbell tacked on another pointed free to which Ryan replied from a free and James Hartnett got the last score of the half for the home side.
Setanta had the breeze on the resumption and had points from Anthony Dillon, and Campbell (free). Tommy Lee Scully got Setanta’s second goal ten minutes into the second half and Dungloe replied through a Ryan free. McClintock pointed for Setanta and then a 50m free from Ryan went all the way to the Setanta net.
That left Setanta leading by 2-8 to 1-8 after 23 minutes. Lee Scully and Ryan swapped points with Campbell adding another point for the winners.
Lee Scully then struck for his second goal which was the real clincher. Ryan completed the scoring with a point from play. Dungloe had Evan McFadden sent off five minutes from time.
