Eoin McHugh . . . in goalscoring form for Kilcar
Realt na Mara 0-03
Kilcar 1-11
Newly crowned All-Ireland Gaeltacht champions Kilcar secured two league points with a routine victory in Bundoran on Saturday night.
The homeside, who have struggled in the current campaign, opened the scoring on two minutes with a point from a Timmy Govorov free. Oran Doogan levelled matters two minutes later and Eoin McHugh edged the Towney men ahead in the 9th minute.
The home team should have retaken the lead on 13 mins when Adam McGlone set up Timmy Govorov but his shot was excellently saved by Eoin O’Donnell; the rebound was then struck by Ryan Blanc but again the Kilcar rearguard stood up and averted the danger.
Almost immediately the visitors made the home team pay as Eoin McHugh evaded at least three tackles to cooly slot to the Bundoran net. A fine Matthew McClean point put five between the sides at the midway point. Anton Govorov got Realt na Mara their second score but two Matthew McClean frees left six between the sides on 22 mins.
Bundoran’s best move of the match saw Adam McGlone split the posts on 26 mins but remarkably this would be their last score of the match. Three further points from Pauric McShane, Mark McHugh and McClean left the halftime score Realt na Mara 0-03, Kilcar 1-08
The second half was played at a somewhat pedestrian pace with the homeside very wasteful in kicking 11 wides and Kilcar seemed happy to be just going through the motions.
The first score eventually did arrive after 15 minutes when Mark Sweeney found the range. The only other points came from McClean and Doogan in the 51st and 53rd minutes.
