Burt senior hurlers
Burt 3-22
Carndonagh 1-5
Burt started their championship campaign with a convincing win over Carndonagh in Hibernian Park on Friday evening.
The hosts were dominant from the first whistle and scored the first three points inside the first five minutes with points from Liam Og McKinney and Callum Purves.
Carn had a decent spell and replied with points from Cathal Doherty and Danny Monagle and were right in the game after 25 minutes with Burt in a lead of 0-7 to 0-2 and Carn competing well all around the park.
But a two-goal burst in two minutes from Ronan McDermott and Kieran Brady gave Burt the breathing room they needed and they led by 2-9 to 0-2 at half-time.
A Liam Óg McKinney goal early in the second half set the tone for the second half.
Óg McKinney scored at will from frees and play and was joined on the scoresheet in the second half by Purves, Ciaran Porter, Stephen Gillespie, Kevin Curran and sub Fiachra Gill.
Carndonagh stayed battling until the end, Luke White hit three great frees and a goal from Daire Tully was deserved, but Burt were well-merited winners.
