Shock resignation in Aodh Ruadh as Conor Cunningham steps down as manager

Conor Cunningham . . . has stepped down as Aodh Ruadh manager

ith a league relegation play-off on the cards and the senior championship just around the corner, Aodh Ruadh are looking for a new manager after the shock resignation of Conor Cunningham.

The Kilcar native stepped down on Monday, two days after his side lost out to Realt na Mara, Bundoran on Saturday afternoon in a league game they needed to win.

Bundoran proved too strong in what was their only win of the entire campaign, winning by 1-12 to 1-8.

The result put Aodh Ruadh into the third from bottom spot and means they  will have to play Termon in a relegation/promotion game. The winners will be playing in Division 1 in 2025 while the losers will play in Division 2.

It has been a tough season for the Ballyshannon-based club, winning three league games and drawing one. Especially after they had finished third in the top flight in the previous two seasons.

Another Kilcar man, John McNulty, had been in charge for two seasons before stepping down at the end of last year when Aodh Ruadh lost out to St Eunan’s in the championship quarter-final.

The appointment of his successor took some time with Conor Cunningham taking over at the beginning of March, much later than most other clubs.

Now the Ballyshannon club have to move quickly to fill the post with their opening senior championship game against Downings set for the second weekend in August.
