Hattrick hero Carr happy with Four Masters' season but looking to push on further

Four Masters' corner-forward Seanán Carr admitted that his team's main objective at the start of the year was to stay in the senior championship, but now with two wins in-a-row he hopes his team can push on further with confidence and positivity

Hattrick hero Carr happy with Four Masters' season but looking to push on further

Seanán Carr scored 3-1 for Four Masters on Saturday against Downings

Four Masters’ man Seanán Carr was the last man to walk off the Downings pitch on Saturday evening following his side’s 11-point win. No doubt he was surveying an incredible Man of the Match performance that saw him hit 3-1.

His performances this season at underage, school, and now senior level have been so supreme that the inside forward could come to these games wearing a 10-gallon hat, but the Masters’ man is only looking for him and his side to push on more every game.

“It’s great to get a second win in the championship, following on from the Gaoth Dobhair win,” Carr said following his team’s 3-8 to 0-6 point win away to Division 1 side Downings.

“Our main aim from the start of the year in the championship was survival and I think we got that now, so we can now look forward to our next two games with real positivity and see where it takes us.”

Within 15 minutes of the first throw-in, Carr raised two green flags as he ghosted into space that Downings were not able to police die to their high press, leaving their backline exposed and allowing the corner-forward to do damage.

“The conditions with the wind today, it was tough at times, but then again, I had a lot of space to use to my advantage. Now I didn’t get too many chances inside, but I got three, and thankfully I took all three and they resulted in goals and I’m happy with that,” he said.

By the time he found his third goal on the 42nd minute, Masters were merely looking towards their next fixture in what has been a positive season for them, one not experienced in a long time.

“I think the way we’ve been treating the season is that we’ve just been taking every game as it comes to us. We’re happy with the two wins from our two championship games but we just want to push on from here while also staying grounded at the same time,” Carr admitted.

“We’ve definitely gelled more as a team this season in understanding each other’s play, that’s a big thing. But also, I suppose the youth is getting older now and the club can see a lot of good players finally coming through to senior level which is great, but we know that there’s a long way to go yet and it’s just about moving forward.”

Six goals across two championship games highlights the firepower in the Four Masters’ attack . . . no doubt something that future opposition defenses will be keeping a close eye on.
