Shay Murrin, Gary Boyle, and Niall Friel will take charge of the newly formed Southwest Donegal team that will compete in the MacRory Cup later this year.

It’s been over a week since the announcement of five schools, Colaiste Na Carraige, St Catherine’s VS, Killybegs, St Columba’s Comprehensive, Glenties, Pobalscoil Na Rosann, and Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair will all compete as one team under the name of Southwest Donegal.

Trial games took place last week to select the squad with the first round of the competition not until the third week of October.

The team most recently took part in a school day blitz in Jordanstown against other teams throughout Ulster.

The management team will see three coaches coming together, with Murrin representing St Columba’s Comprehensive, Boyle from Pobalscoil Na Rosann, and Friel working out of Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair.

Southwest Donegal are in Group A and will face St Patrick’s, Armagh, Holy Trinity, Cookstown, St Colman’s, Newry, and Our Lady’s, Castleblayney.
