Mark McHugh and Moycullen came up short in the Galway final
Mark McHugh watched on as Moycullen were defeated by Corofin in the Galway SFC final on Sunday with the reigning champions holding onto their title on a 2-9 to 0-9 scoreline at Tuam Stadium.
The 2012 All-Ireland winner was part of Kevin Johnson’s backroom team for 2024 and their side had led by 0-4 to 0-3 in the 22nd minute when Jack McCabe capitalised on a mishit pass from ‘keeper Andrew Power and side-footed the ball into the Moycullen net.
The champions then raced towards a 1-6 to 0-4 lead by the break and the second-half would see the sides exchanging three points each before Owen Gallagher’s point reduced the deficit for Moycullen with 10 minutes to go.

They’d get two more points on the board but a goal with two minutes remaining from Gary Sice, who won his 14th Galway SFC medal on this occasion, ensured that the Frank Fox Cup would be returning to Corofin.
McHugh now signs off at Moycullen and takes up a new role at Westmeath where he’s part of Dermot McCabe’s new management team.
