Rory Kavanagh last month helped St Eunan's to the Senior C title in Donegal

Rory Kavanagh has been appointed as manager of Watty Graham's Glen Maghera.

The Derry side are the current All-Ireland Club champions, following their victory in the final against Roscommon and Connacht winners St Brigid's. However, under Malachy O'Rourke - who took over as manager of Tyrone's senior footballers - Watty Graham's were beaten in this year's Derry SFC final by Newbridge on 1-12 to 2-8 scoreline.

During his spell at O'Donnell Park, Letterkenny native Kavanagh was assisted by David O'Herlihy, who will join him in Derry next season.

Kavanagh, 42, managed his native St Eunan's of Letterkenny for three seasons, winning the Donegal SFC crown in 2021 having beaten Naomh Conaill 1-11 to 0-4 before losing out to Watty Graham's 0-8 to 1-4 in Ulster. Previously he managed Donegal U-16s to the Buncrana Cup in 2018. As a player, Kavanagh last month helped St Eunan's to the Senior C title in Donegal.

Scoil Cholmcille teacher Kavanagh was a Donegal SFC winner in 2001, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012 and 2014 and played intercounty football for Donegal from 2001 until 2016 and was an All-Ireland winner under Jim McGuinness in 2012, as well as winning Ulster in 2011, 2012 and 2014.
