Naomh Padraig supporters in Ruislip on Sunday

Daniel McCauley says Naomh Padraig, Uisce Chaoin supporters once again turned up and made themselves heard as an All-Ireland JFC semi-final spot was spectacularly secured in London at the weekend.

The Donegal and Ulster champions easily fended off Tara GFC in Ruislip on a difference of 4-10 to 1-8. And as a result of that feat, now progress to meet Kilmurry of Cork in the last four at Parnell Park next Sunday.

Naomh Padraig made the same trip to McGovern Park back on December 7 but it proved to be in vain as a water-logged pitch resulted in the fixture being put in the long finger until after Christmas.

Speaking on Monday morning, McCauley admits that the group’s second cross-channel trek was all about getting the job done.

“It was a good result,” said McCauley. “The first-half performance was… well, a typical kinda half hour you’d expect after Christmas.

“We started bright but then died away. We’d Kevin Lynch black-carded after the first goal. That put a bit of a spanner in the works either side of half-time.

“We still  went in five up at the break so we were in a decent spot. But we came out the second-half and even still down to 14 at that stage, we really set about our work.

“We controlled the game and Drew got our second goal. Kevin came back on and Caolan McColgan got that third goal.

“Overall, on a horrific day and terrible conditions, we’re absolutely delighted. It was a very heavy pitch and to also come away with no injuries, we’re really pleased.”

After a quick refuel, Naomh Padraig departed Ruislip at pace to make their 8pm flight out of Luton and back into Belfast.

With the countdown well and truly on, the next seven days will be managed really carefully as they look to create even more history by toppling the Munster champions and, in the process, earning an All-Ireland final berth.

“Looking ahead to Kilmurry, and just the close proximity to that, the next few days have to be all about recovery.

“We flew out at eight in the evening, Sunday, so today’s recovery is very important. We’ll analyse the opposition and prepare for that, construct a gameplan we think can get us over the line”.

Meanwhile, McCauley admits that the Naomh Padraig support continue to surprise him as they once again turned up in their droves at McGovern Park.

And he says it’s going to take more of the same in Parnell Park next time out.

“The supporters have been just amazing. Even in London at the weekend they were our ‘16th man’. I can’t stress that enough and we can’t thank them enough.

“It’ll all be needed again in Parnell Park next weekend. January, right after Christmas, can be tight on the pocket. So they deserve special mention.

“Next week I’ve no doubt they’ll paint Dublin blue and yellow”.
